Edward, or "Ed" as he insists to be called, is about six foot two, with a rather tone build, but not unbelievably muscular. He has brightish blond hair and shining blue eyes. On occasions, he has a shadow of what could be a thick red beard, usually when he is too busy working to stop and shave. This has earned him the nickname "Redbeard" by friends close to him, as well as some of the shadier people he visits when searching for information on a specific Titanspawn. He has a very confident, yet friendly air about him. He wears usually the brightest, whitest leather he can find, and the few clothes he has that aren't white are all bright colors.
Personality wise, Ed is very kind, friendly, and cheerful, albeit on occasion a little bit awkward when talking to people aside from his patients. He is always willing to help people whether he is on the clock for it or not. He is also extremely humble, and despite his position as a doctor, even the tag on his office, instead of reading "Dr. Newgate" or some such, it simply says "Ed." He is EXTREMELY protective of the people important to him, and considers all his friends, acquaintances, and even patients as his family. As such, he has a lot of people to protect, and no matter how unrealistic keeping such a great number of people safe is, he is determined to do so.
Ed is twenty two years old, born on June 21st, 1988 at 4:01 AM, the exact time of the summer solstice. He was the younger of two children, separated by a year. His elder brother is named Davis Newgate, and he could never do any wrong in Ed's eyes. Davis was his hero, and he wanted to be just like him. However...when Ed was five years old, and Davis was six, something...not human broke into their room through a nearby window. At such a young age, there was nothing Ed could do. He could only watch, terrified, as his brother was carried away into the night. Their mother came flying into the room, only to find it empty. Later that night, she and the cops found Ed in a nearby abandoned train station...he had attempted to give chase to the creature that took his beloved elder brother away from him. He told his story to the authorities, who chalked it up to nothing but an imaginative child trying to make sense of the ordeal he had been through.
From that day forth, Ed submerged himself in the occult, dedicating his very existence to finding out what happened to his brother, and if he is alive, getting him back. As he grew older and went through school, he slowly realized that others hurt just as much as he did, and he learned how much just being there for them and being their friend could do. Once he hit high school, he started realizing that a fair amount of this pain was caused by supernatural means...he exorcised a ghost, his first blow against the dark forces of the world, in his freshman year. (After breaking into his friend's house at three o clock at night while they were on vacation to do it.)
Eventually, Ed came to realize that helping others in this way was the only thing he felt motivated to do with his life aside from finding his brother. He devoted himself to his academic studies, and got through high school, college, and even graduate school in record time, leaving his peers and teachers in absolute amazement, though his mother never seemed to be surprised for some reason. He got his doctorate at the miraculous age of twenty one, and immediately opened his own practice, having become a clinical psychologist. He now devotes his time to providing comfort and therapy to his patients, righting any supernatural wrongs in their lives that they may happen to have (and breaking the occasional law or two in the process), and searching for any and all evidence of his brother, although he hasn't had a lead in a very long time. He takes out his frustration on the creatures that plague some of his patients, researching and finding out what exactly it is that is tormenting them, and using that knowledge to hunt down the creature or creatures in question and exterminate them.
Absolutely devoted to his work and hunting the creatures that plague his patients, Ed has very little time for just kicking back and having a good time, hence the occasional awkwardness that haunts him in social settings. That being said, if his friends can manage to drag him out for a night on the town and such, Ed is capable of warming up and even becoming the life of the party. However, he has had no time for dating, and as such he becomes VERY flustered when a woman tries to flirt with him. He may be the youngest person to graduate from college with a doctorate in years, but the fact is that he IS still young, and that slightly immature side of him still comes out under the right circumstances. He has always had a slight suspicion that he was physically a little different, having survived many attacks, wounds, and even a few small explosions that would've killed a normal person several times over.
In short, Ed may have some tragedy in his young life, but he is a relatively happy individual who values every single person he has come to know. Make a friend of him, and you've made a friend for life.
